End of Lease Cleaning Tips

When your tenancy comes to an end, there are many things you need to think about besides just how you will move out of the house. One significant aspect that many tenants tend to overlook is cleaning the house at the end of the lease period. This is very important because if you found a clean house at the time you moved in, it only makes sense that you should do the same for the next tenant. However, what is even more significant about cleaning the house is that many landlords are likely to use this as a way to determine how much bond or deposit to give back to you, and sometimes huge amounts of money can be deducted to cater for the cleaning. For this reason, here are a few tips to have in mind.

Professional or DIY

It seems straightforward that if you have the time, the correct tools, and follow the right procedure, DIY end of lease cleaning is the ideal choice because you get to save some money in the process. However, the answer to whether you should clean the house yourself or hire professional end of lease cleaning services could be in your tenancy agreement. Unfortunately for most people, they only read the agreement whenever it's necessary or don't read it at all. Some landlords may require that you use professional cleaners for you to get your full deposit return. The best way to find this out is to read through your tenancy agreement.

Work from Top Downwards

Working in a top-down fashion when cleaning the house on your own will ensure you only have to go over the bottom areas once. If you were to start from the floor for instance, then work your way to the walls and ceilings, the dirt on these upper sections would end up on the floor, which means you will simply be giving yourself more work. Go over the entire house one more time when you are done cleaning just to make sure you didn't miss any areas.

Move Out First

Cleaning with all the stuff inside the house will be a hassle. First, you will need to cover some of your items, such as your electronics and furniture to prevent possible damage from the cleaning. In addition, moving items around while you clean means there are high chances you will do a poor cleaning job. Alternatively, cleaning the house when it is empty gives you a better chance to reach all the places in the house much easily.
