Three tips for speeding up the process of deep-cleaning and de-cluttering your home

Posted on

If your home desperately needs to be deep-cleaned and de-cluttered, but you don't have a lot of spare time, here are a few tips which should help to speed up this process.

Rent a skip bin

One of the most time-consuming elements of de-cluttering is having to drop off all of your unwanted items at a rubbish dump.

If you have a large number of goods that need to be disposed of, you may need to make multiple trips and thus may end up wasting a lot of your precious free time driving back and forth from a landfill, instead of using it to complete your (probably very long) cleaning and de-cluttering 'to do' list.

Renting a skip bin from a rubbish removal company is the easiest solution to this issue. The company will deliver the bin to your home, leave it with you for as long as you need it and then come back to collect the filled bin when you are done. This will allow you to devote every spare minute you have to sprucing up your home.

Don't do it alone

If you're determined whip your home into shape in a very short amount of time, then you will need to enlist the assistance of either your other household members or some friends.

Attempting to handle this task on your own when your free time is limited is likely to result in you rushing through cleaning tasks and not being able to fully de-clutter the messiest parts of your house. This, in turn, will leave you unhappy with the end results of your efforts.

As such, it's important to ask for help. Assign each person a specific list of tasks (or alternatively, assign each person a specific room to clean and de-clutter) so that your team of helpers don't end up wandering aimlessly through the house.

Purchase all of the essential supplies well in advance

One of the biggest time-wasting activities that can occur during a major deep-clean and de-cluttering project is having to pop out to the shops several times a day, to pick up essential supplies that you need to complete specific jobs.

Given this, it is vital to make sure that you stock up on everything you will need before you begin this task. Some of the basic supplies you are likely to require might include a squeegee for cleaning windows, extra hoover bags, spare mop heads, a large number of cleaning sponges, a step ladder (to help you access and de-clutter any shelves or cupboards that are positioned at a height) and feather dusters.
